Case study: Oil test for engine gasket aplications

Our primary objective was to test the performance of TeachSeal cork rubber gaskets in three gasoline engines for these items: gasket material, gasket location, gasket thickness, flange deflection, fasteners and loads, and stress marks (Topaq).Amorim Tech Seal cork rubber sealing products TS1521 and TS1400 stood out in the test for their resistance to minerals such as 10W30 and other engine oils. engine oils such as 10W30.

Nesting solutions for each of these materials are die-cut with all soft gasket applications (for small gasoline engines).

Due to their resistance to mineral engine oils (10W30 and others). After 100 hours of bench testing, the performance of Amorim Tech Seal cork-rubber products has shown that most sealing applications in three different models of small gasoline engines can be effectively sealed using only one gasket material and thickness.

Average holding torque after 100 hours of testing:
- 30% - 35% retention on high deflection stamped steel and plastic flanges (equal to or better than fiber materials with better or equivalent thickness)- 50% - 60% holding torque for hard cast and machined flanges (e.g. crankcase covers) (comparable to fiber materials)
No leaks were detected during or after the 100-hour bench test.
1. Low sealing loads
Lower sealing loads can improve hardware performance, for example by optimizing hardware design, including the use of lower grade or smaller size fasteners, resulting in lower torque, which also contributes to fewer distortion problems and increased safety in the fastener's working range.

2. Extrusion control
If a cork rubber material of suitable hardness is selected, extrusion is not a concern. The compressibility of cork rubber can be used as a substitute for incompressible molded rubber, O-rings, and so on.

3. Adaptation
Withstands extreme surface finish conditions and high out-of-plane range. Large contact areas and sufficient compression forces ensure excellent fit even with flange surface imperfections.
