EDW has developed a guidance document, “Materials in Contact with Drinking Water: Testing of Final Materials and Conformity Assessment,”
EDW has developed a guidance document, Materials in Contact with Drinking Water: Final Substance Testing and Conformity Assessment, which addresses materials and products used in new installations as well as during the refurbishment or repair of existing installations. Its main goal is to prevent microbial growth and minimize the risk of harmful substances leaching into drinking water.
The purpose of this draft guidance document (97 pages) is to promote and support the practical implementation of the requirements set out and defined in Article 11 of Directive (EU) 2020/2184, which will enter into force on December 31, 2026, as well as to complement and regulate the requirements for the production of the products in the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/368 and Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/370, and the corresponding conformity assessment procedures. supplemented and defined.
The purpose of the standard W270, which was developed by the German Association of the Gas and Water Industry (DVGW), is very much in line with the objectives of this guidance document and is used primarily for the assessment of microbiological contamination of drinking water by materials that come into contact with drinking water. The standard was first applied in 1984 and was revised in November 2007 to shorten the test period, improve the accuracy of the test and reduce the limits of determination.12 The latest W270 standard has been changed to DIN EN 16421
We can provide products that comply with the W270 standard, such as: ST-2052, ST-2058, AFM34, AFM39 and so on.
